At Greig Farm, we have been proud stewards of the land since 1942.

Marion and Robert Greig settled in Red Hook in 1942 to start a small dairy and fruit farm. Marion came from a farming family in Delaware County and moved to Hudson during the war to lead the human resources office at a lifeboat factory. Robert spent his early career working for the Cornell Cooperative Extension service, where he helped other local farmers.

The farm started welcoming neighbors for pick-your-own strawberries in 1952, as a gleaning process to harvest the remainder of the crop after the peak of the season.

Marion and Robert’s son Norman returned to the farm in 1975 and began to make pick-your-own a core component of the farm.

Over the following decade, the farm began growing blueberries, blackberries, asparagus, and pumpkins.

Today the farm is well-known for its pick-your-own harvests and its fresh produce sold in its onsite Farm Market. Fruit CSA shares are also available each year.

Environmentally Beneficial Farm Practices

At Greig Farm, we pursue environmentally beneficial practices that build soil health and support resilient ecosystems. We apply a few simple principles: we minimize soil disturbance and use cover crops between harvests, we seek out natural solutions before using inputs, and we maintain a variety of plants and animals on our land.
